As we approach the Fall 2020 Rec Season, we will continue to evaluate how to safely conduct our program. We will closely follow any restrictions outlined by State and Local Government and update our program guidelines accordingly. We will do our best to communicate quickly with the WMSC families as changes occur. Due to the extra planning and measures which need to be accounted for this season, we will have limited ability to accept late registrations. Please ensure that your player is registered by midnight, September 3rd.

Effective August 21, 2020:
WMSC is making the following modifications to the program to allow for more flexibility this season. This will allow us to accommodate late registrations, minimize disruptions should players need to take time off and ensures that we can continue to develop players in the rec program.

Players in the recreation soccer program will be introduced to the technical, tactical and psychological components of the game that will increase their ability to make positive decisions through fun and engaging activities.

Overview of the WMSC Fall Rec Season

The fall recreational soccer program is for boys and girls Pre-K through 8th Grade. The program runs for 8 weeks, starting September 8, 2020 and ending on October 31, 2020.

The program is designed for players to practice and play at a recreation level of play:

  • PreK and Kindergarten (Boys) players participate in Friday sessions only.
  • Kindergarten (Girls) players participate in Saturday sessions only.
  • Grades 1-8 players participate in one weekday practice and one Saturday game.

All Fall Rec practices and games are held at the Black River Fields, North Road, Chester. The field is located next to Black River Middle School with a separate entrance. The address is 233 North Road, Chester, NJ.

Commitment Level

The recreation level program players are expected to participate in a majority of the games and practices. Team rosters are right-sized to maximize playing time; as a result, non-attendance will have an impact on the whole team.


The preliminary schedule for soccer is prepared in advanced of knowing the final enrollment numbers.

The season will start Tuesday, September 8th.

Team Formation

For the fall 2020 season, players will be divided into groups on the field. We will not assign players to pre-assigned teams. This will allow the program greater flexibility this season.

Coaches and Training

Cheshire Academy Trainers will be assigned to train and coach each session.

While WMSC encourages parents to volunteer, all coaching from the sideline and soccer-related decisions, such as line-ups, substitutions, etc., will be handled by the professional trainers.

Required for Games

Shin guards and cleats are mandatory for all players (baseball and football cleats with a toe spike are not allowed). Our Pre-K and K age groups are allowed to wear sneakers, but cleats are preferred.

Jewelry is never permitted during any of the play sessions. Starter earrings must also be removed.

Arrive 5 minutes early, so that  players can hand in paperwork and complete temperature checks.

Registered players will receive email reminders for each session. (The events are all labeled as "practice" in the system for technical reasons.) Each player will be instructed to meet at their designated  "meeting area" on the field.  These are broken down by grades. The meeting areas are A-G and these are listed in the calendar and email reminder .
Players must have a mask to enter the field and then proceed to their designated meeting area. COVID forms will be collected, attendance taken and temperatures will be taken. At that point, players will be regrouped into their age groups and broken down into play groups. The player/trainer ration will be approximately 1:10 but may vary in some sessions due to player turn out. 

Age groups are Pre K, K, 1st, 2/3, 4/5, 6/7/8.  If you review the rooster on- line under your account, you are only able to see the players in your player's grade. If you player is in an age group where there is more than one grade, you will not be able to see the other grades.

If your player doesn't have a completed COVID form or a mask they may  not enter the field or participate in the session.

Each player will receive a pinnie at their first session. The pinnie must be brought to every session, there are no extras for sharing this season.

New this year: In order to ensure the opportunity for our spectators to safely watch games and practices, we ask that families minimize the number of guests per family. Our goal is to ensure that spectators are able to safely distances themselves from others and the best way to do this is to keep this to ~2 people per family. Spectators will be expected to follow local/State guidelines for distancing and wearing of masks.

COVID-19 Measures

We will continue to monitor and update our planning as we get closer to the season. We ask that families read all emails to ensure that new guidelines/practices are understood prior to showing up at the field. Players and spectators not adhering to the posted safe measure practices will be asked to leave the game/session/field. Here is a list of measures that we plan to have in place.

  • Players: At this time, sessions will include regular soccer and contact play.  COVID forms will be required to be completed and submitted before each session. Temperatures will be taken on the field. If your player did not meet the criteria to show up at school, your player should not be on the field!
  • Travel Advisory/Self Quarantine: Please follow the NJ state restrictions regarding out of state travel. Players who have traveled out of state to a location listed on the NJ State Advisory List will be expected to sit out for 14 days.
  • Masks: Players must wear a mask upon arrival at the field and may only take the mask off once instructed by the trainer. Players are not required to wear masks during play time. A player is welcome to wear a mask if he/she chooses. Trainers will be wearing masks as much as possible, if they are 6 ft away from the players they may take the mask off, otherwise they are expecting to keep the masks on.
  • Sidelines: Players will be instructed to sit 6 feet apart, their bags/gear will also be kept separated. Players will have a designated spot (marked by a cone) on the sidelines.  Players may wear masks. Please make sure that your player stores their mask safely while not wearing it so that it is not lost or mistaken by someone else.
  • Goalkeepers: Cheshire trainers will not have gloves/jerseys to share. Players must bring their own gloves and jersey (colored t-shirt okay) to each game and practice.
  • Hand sanitizer: Cheshire Trainers will have these on hand should any player need to use the sanitizer.
  • Water bottles/Lost and Found: Please label all gear and ensure that your player does not leave anything behind after each session. Unlabeled gear will be disposed of.
  • Spectators: Please minimize the number of guests on the field from each family. This will ensure adequate space on the sidelines for families to safely distance themselves from others and still be able to watch the game. All guests (parents and children) are expected to follow local/state guidelines for distancing and mask wearing.
  • Schedule: There are longer breaks between the Saturday sessions, this will allow for families to leave the field before the next group arrives. Kindergarten Boys have been moved to Friday night to also help manage the flow of players on the field.
  • WMSC Gear: All gear must be purchased on line this year by The club will not be selling any items on the field. 
  • Pinnies: Players will be given their own pinnie to use for the full season and future seasons. These will be given at the beginning of the rec season. 
  • Parking: The right side of the parking lot, along the field will be reserved for families who need to remain in their car to watch practice/session play. For all other spectators who are able to safely watch the game in the field, we ask that you park along the left side of the lot.


Team photos will not be organized for this fall season.


For the Fall 2020 Season

Players will not be required to wear a WMSC uniform BUT will be expected to bring their pinnie to each session. WMSC uniforms are expected to be used again in the 2021 season. We plan to continue using the individual player pinnies in the Spring rec and future fall programs going forward. 

New this year: If your child will play goal keeper (grades 2 through 8), it is mandatory that they bring their own set of gloves to each practice and game. Your player will also be expected to bring a different colored shirt to each game and practices as goal keepers jersey will not be shared.


This year due to the modifications of the play, Youth Referees will not be part of the program. We expect to resume regular play in the 2021 season and look forward to welcoming back our great team of local Refs.


Kindergarten and PreK

  • $100 registration + a $5 pinnie fee + a $2.80 transaction fee. 

1st-8th Grade
The Rec fee is $245 ($195 for early bird registrations) + a $5 pinnie fee+ a $2.80 transaction fee.

  • Early registration deadline July 31st (midnight)
  • Registration deadline September 3rd (midnight)
  • Late fee charges are $25 per player

Refunds: If the season is cancelled before September 8th due to COVID-19 restrictions, WMSC will provide refunds. If WMSC needs to cancel mid-season due to COVID-19, WMSC will plan to provide partial refunds. WMSC will not provide refunds for any players who drop out of the program after the start of the season. In addition, prior to September 8th full refunds will be issued if the player leaves the program due to injury, receives a COVID-19 diagnosis, or if the family moving out of town.

All transactions will be charged $2.80 for registrations and refunds. The fee is only per transaction so if multiple players are registered at one time, there is only one fee applied.

Pinnies will be distributed to all rec players at the first  session.
