WMSC Core Values
- Soccer should be fun, safe, and build self-confidence
- Soccer is a team sport, and through it we want to teach children about collective responsibility and teamwork.
- Soccer is a game of skill and fitness, and we want children to master the skills involved and build the fitness required to be successful in all sports.
Long-term Player Development Goals
- WMSC wants to produce soccer players who have mastered all of the skills that the "complete" player needs: passing, receiving, dribbling, turning, shooting, control, individual and team possession. These skills will be especially emphasized in the younger age groups.
- WMSC wants to produce soccer players who understand the strategy and tactics of the game: when to press, when to possess, etc.
- WMSC wants to instill a love of the game.
Player Expectations
By joining at team, each player has made a commitment to his or her teammates. As such we should always strive to do the following:
- Treat teammates, parents, coaches, opponents, and referees with respect, positivity, and consideration.
- Work hard and pay attention when on the field.
- Be on time for practices and games.
Parent Expectations
- Encourage your child and his or her teammates.
- Feel free at the appropriate time to discuss any topic with your child's coach, or any member of the WMSC board.
- Refrain from attempting to coach, correct, or position players during games. Our trainers are working off of a coaching curriculum, and instruction outside of that curriculum may serve only to confuse players and impede the goals of coaches.
