FAQ

SPORTSMANSHIP – Keep in mind that, as in any children's sport, this soccer experience is for the kids.  It’s meant to be fun while at the same time developing skills.  We ask parents to refrain from coaching their own children from the sidelines – we pay our trainers to do that.  As a parent, your role is to enjoy the game and positively support your child.

***The Club will not tolerate any yelling at our referees by either players OR spectators.

This is recreational soccer.  Our referees are young, our players even younger.  Those on the field are there for the experience.  The Club appreciates everyone’s support, patience and cooperation.

UNIFORMS – Each player orders their own uniforms through soccer.com.  An ordering link is sent to you approximately onw week after you register.  All players should wear their uniforms to practices as much as possible.  Players are asked to bring BOTH blue (home) AND red (away) jerseys to all games.

YOUR CHILD'S SCHEDULE - Everything takes place at Black River fields, North Rd, Chester.

By late August/early September all practice and game schedules can be found on the website under FAMILY SCHEDULE and reminders are sent just before a scheduled event.  The name of your child’s team as well as which field they will be on at Black River is also found on the website (and usually your email reminder).

To access schedules follow these simple steps:

(1) Go to www.westmorrissoccer.org
(2) On left hand side select 'Edit My Account'
(3) System will ask you to log in…
(4) Once you log in, you will see page with your name as well as your family members.  On this page there is a tab 'Family Schedule'.  Click on that tab.

PARKING – Accessing the Black River fields’ parking lot may prove challenging. There are LOTS of kids and many cars  - we ask that all employ patience and caution when maneuvering the parking lot.  A few simple rules apply:

-Ingress and egress is ONLY through the gravel main entrance.
-You may park on the grassy lot at the bottom right front of the fields.
-DO NOT create your own entry/exit path onto North Rd. through any of the grass areas.
-DO NOT park in the back circle as you will be ticketed.

OVERFLOW PARKING is at Black River Middle School/Chester Pool parking area.  For safety purposes, walk to the fields behind the Chester Pool.

GARBAGE – Coaches should not have to spend time cleaning up garbage and water bottles after the sessions.  Please help us by ensuring that all garbage - especially drink bottles - have been removed from the fields after each session.

PROPER ATTIRE –

*Shin guards are mandatory. No exceptions.
*No jewelry of any kind may be worn, including yarn, rubber band bracelets and small earrings.  No exceptions.
*Cleats are preferred and strongly recommended.  Must be soccer cleats, no football or baseball cleats.
*Sweatshirts may be worn underneath the uniform when necessary.

SEND YOUR CHILD WITH PLENTY OF WATER.

ROSTERS – These can also be accessed on the website.  Once you know your child’s team (see info above for how to obtain) go to the website.

  1. Find the ‘Team Info’ tab across the mid-top of home page.
  2. Select ‘Choose a Team’.
  3. Drag your mouse to the appropriate age group.
  4. Click on the name of your child’s team.
  5. Once there, the left hand side has a ‘Roster’ tab, in addition to other important info you may want.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS - All field closures are posted on the Club’s homepage.  If in doubt, check the page before heading out to the fields - www.westmorrissoccer.org.  Field status is listed on the right-hand side of the page.  You should also receive an email when fields are closed.  Unfortunately due to limited field space, rain cancellations are not rescheduled.

PICTURE DAY - Keep an eye out for emails announcing the date, likely a Saturday towards the end of September.

YEAR-END FESTIVAL – The season ends with our annual Year-End Festival on Saturday Oct 28.  This is a great family day wherein players participate in 3 shortened games, spray paint their hair, celebrate their team and season, parents contribute to a team food table and player end-of-year medals are distributed.  Mark your calendars - more information will follow as we get closer to the day.

Team Parents - Is a ‘point of contact’ for the team. Team Parent role really consists of setting a snack schedule (if your team wants one) and keeping track of who is bringing what to the Year End Party.  The Team Parent is NOT on the sidelines with the trainers and you really don’t have to be there during games or practices either.

CARPOOLING – Players of same age and gender will practice at the same time, regardless of team, all at Black River.  Carpooling is encouraged where possible.

*****

Several have written to inform us that their child may not be able to participate in all of the practices and/or games.  At recreational level soccer, we encourage players to attend as many of their sessions/games as possible but do understand conflicts arise.  Due to a high number of registrations, we are not able to move sessions around, so simply ask that you work around your conflicts as best as possible.  There are some years that work better than others when setting family schedules – hopefully you got lucky and this is a good year for your schedule -- if not, work out what you can -- it’s all any of us with multiple schedules can do.

Enjoy the season!
