Our new spring soccer program is off to a great start! The rains held out, parking wasn’t too bad most days and the kids looked like they were having loads of fun!
Thank you to all of the parents for the tremendous support we have received launching the program and for your cooperation with all of the guidelines in place. The trainers only had to pickup a handful of discarded water bottles as the week progressed, a huge improvement from earlier in the week.
This week’s focus was primarily to have the kids become comfortable with the size of the field. Despite the smaller playing area, the kids are running a lot, even more than they might on the larger fields. Players quickly realized that long balls wouldn’t work and that passes had to be more controlled. The trainers also encouraged players to focus on passing by awarding additional points if they were able to make at least 2 or 3 passes before scoring. The younger kids simply had many more opportunities to touch the ball and to score.
Over the course of the sessions, the trainers will slowly introduce new skills. They will also continue to let the kids play uninterrupted as much as possible, while at the same time stopping the game when a teaching situation presents itself. We will continue to keep you updated and hope that all are enjoying the new format.
